Power Generation & Storage
TFP have developed a range of materials specifically designed
for use in both established and emerging power generation &
storage systems. The typical applications for these include
battery separators and electrodes for fuel cells.
Lead acid battery
TFP produce a variety of nonwoven glass
products which have been designed to meet the requirements of lead
acid battery systems. These materials are suitable for use as
separators, slip sheets, pasting papers and glass retainer mats
and, like all TFP nonwovens, their design & properties can be
tailored to meet individual needs.
A range of separator products suitable for use in Lithium
batteries is also available. These materials are based on
glass fibre, but can incorporate other fibres such
as quartz, alumina and high performance organic
fibres to achieve the required performance
The electrical conductivity and chemical resistance of our
carbon fibre materials make them ideal for use in
fuel cell assemblies, where they form the base material for
carbon/carbon composite electrodes or perform as separators.
We are a leading supplier of these products to the phosphoric
acid fuel cells (PAFC) market and are actively involved in
developing the next generation of gas diffusion media (GDM) for
both Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cells and Direct Methanol
fuel cells (DMFC). This latter development work is carried out in
collaboration with Johnson Matthey Fuel Cells.
